KAKATA, Margibi County — The family of nine-year-old Samuel Nuwelee of Gutomo Town, Kakata, is appealing for humanitarian assistance as the young boy battles a severe and mysterious heart condition that has left local health workers struggling to determine a diagnosis.
Speaking with Liberia Excellent News Network over the weekend, Samuel’s elder sister, Mary Nuwelee, described the family’s anguish and growing desperation as the child’s health continues to deteriorate.

She called on well-meaning individuals, philanthropists, and humanitarian organizations to come to the family’s aid, stressing that time is running out.
According to Mary, Samuel’s condition worsened rapidly after what initially appeared to be a minor illness. In recent days, his symptoms have intensified, with doctors suspecting severe heart failure.
“The situation is now critical,” Mary said, her voice filled with emotion. “Our brother is in so much pain, and he is getting weaker every day. We feel completely helpless watching him suffer.”
A major challenge, she explained, is the uncertainty surrounding Samuel’s illness. Despite visits to local health facilities, medical practitioners have been unable to clearly identify the cause of his condition.
This lack of a definitive diagnosis has left the family without a clear treatment plan and has compounded their emotional and financial distress.
With limited medical resources in the area and no clear answers, the family believes Samuel’s only chance of survival lies in accessing advanced medical care outside their community.
“We are appealing to the public for financial support,” Mary pleaded. “We need help to take him to a better hospital where he can undergo proper tests and be seen by specialist doctors. We do not have the means to cover the costs for advanced diagnostics, specialized treatment, or even the travel expenses.”
The family says any assistance could make a life-saving difference as they struggle to secure urgent care for the ailing child.
