MONROVIA – As a child, Surprise Cupurt had a dream of donning the army green uniform of a solider to proudly serve the Armed Forces of Liberia and her beloved country.
Her dream is speedily eroding as her battlefield is not a one marked by boots and drills but by dialysis machines and hospital beds.
Ms. Cupurt, a 10th grade dropout from a humble background sees her dreams running far away as achieving it is no longer an easy task due to her current health condition.
“I just wanted to join the army of this country. I really wanted to wear the uniform bearing the flag, serve, and protect my country,” she said.

The 26 years old woman requires dialysis every three days just to stay alive. And the cost of the treatment is US$90 each time – far beyond what she and her family can afford.
“It is a very heavy burden,” she admits quietly in an interview with Liberia Excellent News Network. Her voice trembles, tears slowing drop down as she explained her current condition which places her at a very high risks.
“Every time I miss one step of my dialysis treatment, the closer the end of my life.”
Without completing her education, and with her dreams stalled by an illness, Cupurt is now reaching out to the world not for a sympathy but for a lifetime.
“I am pleading for help. I just want a chance to live even if I cannot achieve my dream. Hope someone will hear my cry and render me an assistance which will enable me do my treatment.
