YEKEPA – ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) showcased its dedication to fostering innovation, leadership, and continuous professional growth during its recent annual Learning Week—a key initiative designed to build a resilient and forward-thinking workforce.

A standout moment was a powerful session led by Joseph Fallah, Rail Maintenance Planning Engineer, who championed a “bottom-to-top leadership” approach.

He emphasized the importance of encouraging innovation and leadership at every level of the company, especially from frontline employees.

Leadership That Starts on the Ground

In his session titled “Future Ready Leadership: Inspiring Innovation at Every Level,” Fallah challenged traditional leadership models by urging managers and executives to empower employees closest to day-to-day operations. He highlighted that many effective and practical ideas often originate from those who engage with the work directly.

“Innovation isn’t just born in the boardroom,” Fallah explained. “The best solutions often come from those on the ground. It’s essential to create spaces where their ideas are valued and celebrated.”

The session resonated with attendees, sparking discussions about how inclusive leadership can foster a sustainable, innovative corporate culture. Fallah stressed that future-ready organizations must nurture leadership internally, particularly among employees with hands-on operational experience.

Encouraging Recognition and Open Dialogue

During the interactive workshop, participants shared experiences and brainstormed ways to enhance communication and innovation-sharing within AML.

One attendee, Enice Fallah, praised the session’s relevance and suggested similar follow-ups be held specifically for supervisors, team leaders, and managers.

“This session was eye-opening,” she said. “It reminded me of how important it is to keep pushing and contributing. More leaders should participate in these conversations to understand the impact they have on our growth.”

Cultivating a Culture of Excellence

ArcelorMittal Liberia, as the country’s largest foreign direct investment in the post-war era, operates a world-class mining, logistics, and railway system centered in Yekepa. The company continues to prioritize human capital development through initiatives like Learning Week, which reinforces a culture of excellence, innovation, and employee empowerment.

With focused sessions on leadership, digital skills, technical expertise, and teamwork, AML aims to equip its workforce with the tools necessary to advance professionally and drive the company’s sustained success.

Joseph Fallah’s session perfectly illustrated AML’s broader goal: building a leadership pipeline that is inclusive, adaptive, and fueled by the collective knowledge and creativity of its people.
