Grand Bassa County – In response to the growing need for youth educational empowerment during the ongoing two-month school break, ArcelorMittal Liberia has announced plans to provide vacation job opportunities for students within its affected communities in Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa Counties.
A delegation from ArcelorMittal, led by the Community Relations Officer and other key staff members, recently met with Superintendent Karyou Johnson of Grand Bassa County to discuss the initiative.
The company’s management expressed its commitment to offer vacation jobs to senior high school and university students who are residents of the impacted communities.
Scheduled to commence in August and conclude in September this year, the vacation job program will be coordinated in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education.
The meeting also brought together representatives from the County Civil Society Council, Bassa Youth Caucus leadership, the President of the Grand Bassa Student Union (GBASU), County Education Officer Jefferson Vobah, Harlandsville Township Commissioners Isaac N. Williams, and delegates from affected communities.
Together, they established a vetting committee tasked with coordinating the vacation job exercise to ensure transparency and fairness.
Initially, the program aimed to engage 200 students across the three counties. However, following discussions, ArcelorMittal Liberia’s management agreed to increase this number to accommodate more beneficiaries, as encouraged by Superintendent Johnson.
Local government officials, civil society groups, youth organizations, and student leaders expressed strong support for the initiative, pledging their full cooperation to ensure its successful implementation.
Further details regarding the application process, including financial information, will be shared on ArcelorMittal Liberia’s official website, social media platforms, and through community radio announcements throughout the week.
