Speaking in his capacity as Visitor of the University, President Boakai underscored the central role of higher education in advancing Liberia’s national development agenda.

As part of his commitment, President Boakai announced a personal donation of US$50,000 to support the establishment of a modern research laboratory at the state-run institution.

He explained that the funds were drawn from savings generated through his voluntary salary reduction and indicated that proceeds from similar initiatives would continue to be channeled into projects that deliver tangible national benefits.

In addition to his personal contribution, the Liberian leader disclosed that more than six million United States dollars have been appropriated in the Fiscal Year 2026 National Budget to improve infrastructure and learning conditions across the University.

The President emphasized that modern facilities are critical to fostering academic excellence and creating an environment that reflects the ambitions and potential of students.

Addressing governance and institutional standards, President Boakai called on the University’s Administration to reinforce academic, administrative, financial, and disciplinary systems. He stressed that sustained progress in higher education depends on accountability, integrity, and strict adherence to established standards.

“Excellence is never accidental; it is the product of discipline, integrity, and the courage to uphold standards,” the President declared, noting that restoring the University’s prestige and global competitiveness requires collective responsibility from leadership, faculty, students, and alumni.

Turning to the graduating class, President Boakai commended the graduates for their resilience and determination throughout their academic journey.

He described them as members of Liberia’s emerging specialized workforce, poised to contribute meaningfully to national transformation.

The President urged the graduates to embrace ethical leadership and national service, encouraging them to place governance above greed, service above self-interest, and vision above personal vindication.

He also called for renewed energy within the University’s Alumni Association, describing alumni engagement as essential to strengthening the institution’s reputation, expanding professional opportunities for graduates, and mobilizing financial and technical support.

As an alumnus himself, President Boakai encouraged former students to reconnect with and support their alma mater.

Recognizing the University’s longstanding role in shaping national consciousness and democratic discourse, President Boakai emphasized that student engagement must remain peaceful and constructive.

The Liberian leader stressed that the campus should continue to function as a marketplace of ideas and a center of innovation that advances national unity and progress.
