CDC Secretary General Accuses Boakai Administration of Fiscal Deceit, Warns of National Crisis

MONROVIA The opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has launched a scathing attack on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration, accusing it of corruption, fiscal recklessness, and deliberate mismanagement of the national budget.

In a strongly worded statement posted on Facebook, CDC Secretary General Jefferson Tamba Koijee described the government’s proposed “Budget of Hope” as a “declaration of war against the Liberian people,” warning that the country is being pushed toward economic collapse.

Koijee cited an analysis by Senator Amara Konneh, which he said exposes what the CDC believes is widespread fiscal deceit within the Unity Party–led government.

According to Koijee, millions of dollars allocated for essential public services—including education, healthcare, sanitation, and agriculture—have either been diverted or remain unaccounted for.

“The Executive Mansion is receiving money it did not earn, while critical institutions are being starved,” Koijee charged.

Though Mr. Koijee provided no further proof to his allegations, he specifically pointed to Roberts International Airport (RIA), alleging that its US$2 million allocation has disappeared despite the airport’s growing infrastructure and operational needs.

The CDC official also accused the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) of being deprived of sanitation funds, which he claimed are instead being redirected to sustain political patronage and waste.

Youth programs, he added, are overspending beyond legal limits while unemployment and hunger continue to grip young people across the country.

“This is not leadership; it is betrayal,” Koijee declared, accusing President Boakai and what he termed the “Unity Gang” of weaponizing the national budget to reward loyalists at the expense of ordinary Liberians.

Koijee further criticized the Legislature for what he described as a reckless approval of a US$256 million “General Government” allocation without adequate oversight, calling lawmakers “accomplices” in what he labeled an economic crime against the state.

He warned that failure by the Senate to intervene could plunge Liberia into deeper poverty and instability, asserting that signs of systemic collapse are already evident.

“Mr. Boakai is not governing,” Koijee concluded. “He is gambling with the nation’s survival.”

As of publication, the Executive Mansion and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning had not issued an official response to the allegations
