CAPITOL HILL – The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has strongly condemned an alleged assault involving a Liberia National Police (LNP) officer assigned to the Deputy Speaker’s security detail, describing the reported act as “brutal, inhumane, and wholly indefensible.”
In a statement issued Tuesday, the office distanced the Deputy Speaker from the incident, which allegedly involved Officer Murphyson Antsui beating a woman into unconsciousness.

“The Deputy Speaker had no involvement in, prior knowledge of, or tolerance for this alleged act,” the statement said. “Any claim or suggestion linking this office to such conduct is false and misleading.”
According to the statement, Officer Antsui had previously been under suspicion for what the office described as “uncouth behavior,” a concern it said underscores the urgency of a thorough and transparent investigation.
“The alleged assault, particularly the beating of a woman to the point of unconsciousness, is brutal, inhumane, and wholly indefensible,” the office declared. “Such conduct is fundamentally inconsistent with the values of public service, respect for human dignity, and the rule of law.”
The Deputy Speaker’s office further emphasized that violence against women will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“Violence against women is a serious crime and will not be excused, rationalized, or minimized,” the statement said. “This act represents a grave violation of professional duty, ethical standards, and basic human decency.”
The office expressed full support for law enforcement authorities and called for swift and impartial justice.
“We support a full, independent, and transparent investigation into this matter,” the statement added. “No individual, regardless of position or proximity to power, is above the law.”
Reaffirming its position, the Office of the Deputy Speaker formally dissociated itself from the alleged actions of the officer and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
“The Deputy Speaker remains firmly committed to accountability, the protection of women and girls, and the strict enforcement of the rule of law,” the statement concluded.
