Monrovia — In a significant show of regional solidarity and support, ECOWAS, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Agency and the Liberia Red Cross Society, officially launched a $725,000 humanitarian project aimed at assisting more than 1,820 families affected by recent floods in Montserrado, Lofa, Bong, and Grand Cape Mount counties.
The initiative, unveiled today, will provide direct cash assistance to vulnerable households, distribute farming tools and seeds to 200 farmers, and improve access to safe water through the construction and rehabilitation of hand pumps and solar-powered water towers in affected communities.
Speaking at the launch, ECOWAS Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah underscored the project’s importance beyond financial aid.
“This is not just support—it is solidarity,” she stated, emphasizing the commitment of the West African regional bloc to the welfare of flood-affected populations.
Gregory Blamoh, CEO of the Liberia Red Cross Society, reiterated the organization’s dedication to transparency and community involvement throughout the project’s implementation. “This is more than numbers; it’s about saving lives and standing with our people in their time of greatest need,” Blamoh said.
Community leaders expressed gratitude and hope as the initiative promises to restore livelihoods and improve resilience in flood-affected areas. A representative from Grand Cape Mount commented, “We feel seen, we feel heard, and we know we are not alone.”
The project aims not only to support recovery but also to empower communities to rebuild stronger and more resilient futures following the devastating floods.
