At Liberia Excellent News Network (LENN), we firmly believe that gender equality and equity are essential pillars of a just and progressive society.
True national development cannot be achieved if half of the population continues to face barriers that limit their opportunities and suppress their potential.
Women’s representation at every level of society is not merely symbolic—it is transformative. When women are empowered and given equal opportunities, they contribute meaningfully to national growth, strengthen communities, and help build a more inclusive and prosperous Liberia.
As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, we call on the Government of Liberia and all policymakers to renew their commitment to protecting women and girls, particularly those living in vulnerable communities across the country.
This commitment must go beyond words and symbolic gestures. It must translate into concrete policies, stronger laws, and decisive action.
For far too long, Liberian women have endured various forms of violence and discrimination. These include sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, and exploitative practices such as sex-for-grades and sex-for-jobs. Many women and girls are also subjected to harmful traditional practices, including Female Genital Mutilation, which continue to threaten their health, dignity, and future.
Such injustices must no longer be tolerated.
As societies around the world evolve, Liberia must also rise to the challenge. Gender-based violence remains one of the most persistent threats to the safety and empowerment of women and girls. Addressing it requires firm political will, stronger enforcement of laws, and sustained national awareness.
Liberia must take decisive steps to dismantle structural barriers that continue to marginalize women. Women and girls deserve equal access to education, employment, leadership, and decision-making spaces.
When these opportunities are denied, the nation itself loses the full benefit of their talents, innovation, and leadership.
At Liberia Excellent News Network, we believe that the day Liberia achieves true gender equity and equal representation will mark the beginning of a stronger national trajectory toward sustainable development and social justice.
On this International Women’s Day, let us move beyond celebration and commit to meaningful change. Let us protect our women and girls. Let us respect their rights. And above all, let us treat them with the love, dignity, care, and opportunities they deserve.
Because when women rise, nations rise.
