Nimba County –  In a show of solidarity for women representation, Ex-Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor have endorsed the candidacy of Madame Edith Gongloe-Weh.

Madame Gongloe-Weh is the lone female candidate standing against six men in an election already overshadowed by tribal and political divide in Nimba County.

“I stand with the women of Liberia to support women’s candidates in the Legislature,” Sirleaf said. “Other countries are moving forward to give women their rightful place. Anyone who stops us is stopping progress in the world. Edith Gongloe‑Weh served as superintendent during my administration and demonstrated commitment, dedication, and integrity.” Ex-President Sirleaf said.

Former President Sirelaf was speaking Thursday at the #SheDeserveASeat rally under the auspices of a coalition of Liberian women where she made an undisclosed cash contribution to Gongloe-Weh’s campaign.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s immediate past Vice President Jewel Horward Taylor has also pledged our support to the senatorial bid of Madame Eidth Gongloe-Weh.

In a statement released on Thursday VP Taylor endorsed the decision made by the “Concerned Partisans and members of the NPP’s National Executive Committee” to unite behind Madam Gongloe-Weh.

A respected native of Nimba County and a dedicated advocate for good governance and women’s empowerment, Madam Gongloe-Weh’s candidacy is widely seen as a positive force for the region.

“As Standard Bearer of the NPP, I fully endorse the courageous and strategic choice of the Concerned Partisans and NEC members to support Madam Edith Gongloe-Weh. At this critical juncture, I urge all NPP supporters, especially women throughout Nimba County, to recognize the importance of voting for Edith. Her success will not only advance the county but also promote inclusive leadership,” Chief Dr. Howard-Taylor affirmed. She also addressed the ongoing leadership challenges within the NPP, noting the party currently lacks an officially recognized leadership structure by the National Elections Commission (NEC).” She said in the statement.

VP Taylor said “the NPP is presently in a leadership crisis. We must overcome internal divisions and commit to rebuilding our party through a transparent and democratic convention. Unity is essential for the future of the NPP.”
