Ganta City Mayor Backs Community Elections, Pledges Support for Local Development

By: James Myking Suah

NIMBA COUNTY – The Mayor of Ganta, Samuel Hardt, has described the initiation of community leadership elections as a fulfillment of the Local Government Act, enacted into law in 2018 by the National Legislature.

According to Mayor Hardt, the move to hold community elections reflects President Joseph Boakai Sr.’s strong commitment to decentralizing leadership at the grassroots level. This, he said, aligns with the administration’s ARREST Agenda, which seeks to promote prosperity and national development.

Speaking over the weekend at the induction ceremony for the new leadership of Glenyliuu Community in Ganta City, Mayor Hardt reaffirmed the City Corporation’s full support for working in collaboration with the new leaders and all community authorities to advance the progress of Ganta in Nimba County.

He reminded citizens that the Local Government Act empowers his office to organize free and fair democratic elections for all zonal heads, emphasizing the importance of participatory governance.

Mayor Hardt expressed appreciation to the Glenyliuu community and the Independent Elections Commission for conducting a peaceful election. He also commended citizens for upholding democratic principles throughout the process.

He charged the newly inducted community leaders to serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication in order to maintain public trust over the course of their four-year term.

The Ganta Mayor called on community members and elected officials to collaborate with both the City Corporation and the national government to successfully implement the ARREST Agenda, which includes priorities such as economic growth and improved sanitation.

Mayor Hardt also highlighted ongoing infrastructure development across Ganta City, crediting the active involvement of residents—particularly the business community—for supporting local administration efforts to fast-track meaningful development initiatives in Nimba County.

“We don’t rely on superstition—we respect time, and we value time. If you value time, you can succeed. You can surpass even those who are already in trade,” he asserted. “Leadership requires wisdom. I bless you with the wisdom God has given me—so lead your people with wisdom.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor disclosed that the local government is preparing to launch a major road rehabilitation project, beginning with Glenyliuu Community and expanding to other parts of the city.
