MONROVIA – The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep dismay and strong condemnation over the alleged gang rape of a 65-year-old woman in Nimba County.

According to reports, the incident occurred on September 26, 2025, in Hope Village, Ganta City. In a statement issued on Thursday, October 9, the Ministry described the assault as “appalling” and said the elderly survivor was brutally violated by unknown individuals.

“The Ministry, through its County Gender Office in Nimba, has been actively coordinating with law enforcement, health, and psychosocial service providers to ensure that the survivor receives comprehensive support and that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement said.

The Ministry commended all partners, particularly the Liberia National Police (LNP), for their swift response and called for a speedy investigation and prosecution of all those involved in what it termed a heinous crime.

In another troubling case, the Ministry reported that a two-year-old girl in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County, was raped by a 25-year-old housemate.

According to the statement, the child has since been discharged from the hospital, while the perpetrator has been convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison at the Sanniquellie Central Prison.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the Ministry vowed to continue working with traditional leaders, faith-based institutions, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to eliminate all forms of abuse across Liberia.

The statement further urged communities to remain vigilant, report all forms of violence, and support survivors in seeking justice and services.

“SGBV is not only a crime but a gross violation of human rights that undermines the dignity and safety of our citizens, particularly women, children, and the elderly,” the Ministry emphasized.
