Gender Ministry Condemns Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minor, Calls for Swift Investigation

NATIONAL NEWS

Monrovia The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) has expressed grave concern over reports alleging that a staff member of the National Security Agency (NSA) sodomized a fifteen-year-old boy.

In a press statement issued Monday, the Ministry strongly condemned all forms of sexual violence and abuse against children, describing such acts as gross violations of Liberia’s Children’s Law, the Penal Law, and international child protection instruments to which Liberia is a signatory.

The MGCSP emphasized that sexual abuse of a minor is a serious criminal offense that causes lasting physical, psychological, and emotional harm to victims, while also undermining the moral fabric of society.

The Ministry called on relevant law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and expedited investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and ensure that justice is served.

It further stressed the immediate need to prioritize the safety and well-being of the child involved, including access to medical care, psychosocial support, and legal protection.

According to the Ministry, the identity and privacy of the alleged victim must be fully protected in keeping with child protection best practices.

The Gender Ministry also urged all institutions—particularly security agencies—as well as parents, guardians, community leaders, and the general public to cooperate with authorities and remain vigilant in reporting cases of child abuse.

Reaffirming its position, the MGCSP said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual and gender-based violence and will continue working with partners to strengthen prevention and response mechanisms across the country.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the allegation or confirmed whether any arrest has been made.
