Monrovia – A high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday visited the Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia, reaffirming support for the country’s push to strengthen justice and accountability.
The delegation, led by Andrew Flex Arsenio De Castro, held talks with OWECC-L Executive Director, Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, focusing on the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court and the proposed National Anti-Corruption Court.
IMF representatives described the courts as essential for combating impunity, tackling systemic corruption, and restoring investor confidence.
Economist Alexander Deline of the IMF’s Africa Department stressed that credible judicial institutions are vital for sustainable growth and resilient governance.
Cllr. Barbu briefed the team on stakeholder consultations and outlined OWECC-L’s roadmap, which includes legislative drafting, capacity building, and public outreach.
The visit comes as Liberia accelerates plans to set up the two landmark judicial institutions, which are expected to operate independently and in line with international justice standards.
