LACC Launches Investigation into Allegations Against Commerce Minister Dagoseh

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has launched a full-scale investigation into allegations of unexplained wealth and corruption involving the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Madam Magdalene Dagoseh.

The investigation follows a petition submitted on January 14, 2026, under the banner of the Democratic Movement for Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance, calling on the Commission to probe claims of asset accumulation allegedly inconsistent with the Minister’s official income.

In a communication dated January 21, 2026, the LACC confirmed that it had reviewed the petition and forwarded the matter to its Monitoring and Investigation Department for further action.

The Commission assured the public that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with its statutory mandate.

According to the petition, the Minister is alleged to have acquired several high-value properties within a year of assuming office.

These include the construction of duplexes in Grand Bassa County and the purchase of properties in Buchanan City, which the petitioners argue appear disproportionate to her declared earnings as a public official.

The complaint further alleges that one of the property acquisitions involved the concealment of beneficial ownership through the use of a proxy.

Additionally, the petition references a media report alleging the misappropriation of funds connected to the renovation of an industrial park.

While the Minister has not publicly responded to the allegations, the LACC has emphasized that the initiation of an investigation does not constitute a determination of guilt.

Background

The petition was formally filed at the LACC headquarters in Monrovia by Victor G. Flomo and P. Maxwell Vah, who identified themselves as members of the Democratic Movement for Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance, a civil society organization advocating integrity in public service.

Speaking after filing the complaint, Flomo and Vah said their action was driven by concerns over alleged discrepancies between the Minister’s declared income and assets reportedly acquired within a short period.

They stressed that the petition is not politically motivated, but rather a civic effort aimed at strengthening democratic governance, accountability, and public trust in government institutions.

The petitioners also disclosed that they have gathered documents and other supporting materials, which they said would be made available to investigators to aid the Commission’s due diligence process.

As the investigation proceeds, the LACC has called for public restraint, reiterating that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
