In a major operation, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested 70-year-old Mrs. Lucy S. Morris for drug trafficking in West Point Township.
The arrest followed a targeted operation based on credible intelligence, resulting in the seizure of KUSH valued at over one million Liberian dollars (L$1,000,000).
Preliminary investigations reveal that the narcotics were cleverly concealed in nine small mineral water bottles, suggesting a deliberate attempt to evade detection.
Mrs. Morris is currently under investigation and is expected to be forwarded to court for prosecution under the Amended Controlled Drugs and Substances Act of 2023.
The LDEA reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the distribution of illicit substances across Liberia. “We are intensifying operations throughout the country to ensure that those involved in the illegal drug trade are brought to justice,” an agency spokesperson said.
The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activities. “Community cooperation is essential in our fight against drug trafficking,” the spokesperson emphasized.
In addition, the LDEA warned that traffickers are increasingly using motorcycles and tricycles (kekehs) to transport drugs in an effort to evade law enforcement.
The agency assured the public of its determination to adapt countermeasures to intercept these evolving strategies.
As operations continue, the LDEA remains committed to safeguarding the health and safety of all Liberians, underscoring the critical role of community support in the fight against drug trafficking.
