Monrovia The Government of Liberia, through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), has officially begun preparations for the 2026 International Fisheries Investment Conference, set for March 30–31, 2026.

The announcement was made by NaFAA Acting Director General, J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., during a press conference at the agency’s headquarters on Bushrod Island.

According to NaFAA, the conference will bring together international investors, policymakers, technology providers, and development partners to explore opportunities in Liberia’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.

The initiative aims to transform the industry into a modern, competitive, and investment-ready sector.

Mr. Saygbe emphasized that while Liberia’s fisheries are crucial for national food security and livelihoods, the sector is currently “surviving rather than progressing.”

He noted that the government, under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., is working to diversify NaFAA’s revenue streams away from dependence on industrial fishing licenses toward more sustainable funding sources.

As part of the preparations, NaFAA has developed a Resource Mobilization Strategy, with the conference serving as a key platform for attracting investment, fostering innovation, and building partnerships. The agency is also finalizing strategic documents, including a 10-Year Fisheries Strategic Plan, a Fisheries Investment Plan, and a National Aquaculture Strategy, which will be formally launched during the conference.

Golden Touch Corporation has been recruited to lead the planning and execution of the event, engaging stakeholders nationally and internationally to inform the conference program, exhibitions, and investment dialogues.

Mr. Saygbe urged all stakeholders—including government agencies, investors, fishers’ groups, and community organizations—to participate in the consultative process to identify opportunities, strengthen systems, and promote sustainable fisheries development.

Early registration for the conference opens today, and NaFAA encouraged interested parties to secure their participation in what it calls a “transformative process” for Liberia’s fisheries sector.

“Together, we can build a future where Liberia’s fisheries resources generate greater value, create sustainable jobs, and remain a cornerstone of national prosperity for generations to come,” Mr. Saygbe concluded.
