MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, release, and subsequent death of Ms. Nancy Musu Kiatamba, a resident of Vai Town, Old Road Community.
According to an LNP statement, initial reports indicate that Ms. Kiatamba was apprehended and detained on May 9, 2025, by Inspector Saywon T. Wulah of Zone 3 Depot 1 following an alleged verbal altercation. She was reportedly released the same day.
On May 14, 2025, the LNP received a formal complaint from Ms. Moimeh Thomas, Ms. Kiatamba’s guardian, reporting her death and alleging that it resulted from an assault by the officer involved.
In response, the Inspector General of Police ordered an immediate administrative investigation, led by the Professional Standards Department. Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that Inspector Wulah has been recommended for interdiction in accordance with LNP regulations.
“The IGP has requested a forensic autopsy to scientifically determine the cause of death,” the statement emphasized, noting that the outcome of the investigation—along with the autopsy results—will inform any further administrative actions or potential criminal proceedings as deemed appropriate under the law.
The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to due process and assured the public that the matter is being handled in strict adherence to established Police Administrative Instructions.
