MONROVIA – The Liberian government has dismissed claims that recent United States visa registration restrictions affecting Liberia are connected to misconduct by officials of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration.
Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah said reports suggesting otherwise were being deliberately misinterpreted, particularly by members of opposition political parties, and described such narratives as misleading and damaging to the country’s national interest.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s weekly press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, Mr Piah said no public official serving under the current government is facing US sanctions or travel restrictions.
He contrasted the situation with that of the previous administration under former President George Manneh Weah, during which some officials were subjected to US sanctions and visa bans.
The minister warned that the spread of what he called misinformation could harm Liberia’s international reputation and undermine public confidence in state institutions.
Mr Piah also stressed that diplomatic relations between Liberia and the United States remain strong, adding that ongoing engagements between the two countries continue to reflect cooperation, mutual respect and shared democratic values.
He urged political actors and members of the public to rely on verified information from official government sources and to avoid circulating claims that could negatively affect Liberia’s foreign relations and national unity.
