NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has been recognized as the second top-performing public institution in the country, recording an impressive 91 percent implementation rate of audit recommendations issued by the General Auditing Commission (GAC).

According to the GAC’s latest compliance assessment of previously audited institutions, LiMA ranked among the best-performing agencies, with the majority of audit recommendations fully implemented, and only a few partially addressed or outstanding.

The achievement underscores LiMA’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial management.

The GAC praised the Authority for putting in place effective internal monitoring systems and a structured compliance framework to ensure adherence to audit recommendations.

LiMA’s Audit Focal Point described the rating as evidence of deliberate institutional reforms aimed at strengthening governance, improving internal controls, and ensuring the prudent use of public resources.

Deputy Chief Financial Officer Mr. Desiré Satia said the recognition reflects the Authority’s resolve to uphold the highest standards of accountability in managing Liberia’s maritime sector.

“This recognition underscores our resolve to uphold the highest standards of accountability and integrity. We remain committed to addressing all outstanding audit recommendations and continuously improving our systems in line with best practices,” Mr. Satia stated.

He further noted that Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr. has consistently emphasized the prioritization of audit recommendations, maintaining a zero-tolerance stance toward unresolved audit issues.

“The Commissioner/CEO insists that audit recommendations receive the utmost attention, with deliberate actions taken to address every finding. He believes transparency and institutional efficiency are essential to leaving a legacy of exemplary corporate governance,” Mr. Satia added.

The recognition comes as LiMA continues to play a critical role in sustaining Liberia’s status as the world’s largest shipping registry, reinforcing public confidence in the Authority’s governance and operational effectiveness.

LiMA has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with oversight institutions, including the GAC, to strengthen compliance and contribute meaningfully to national development.
