LINU Call for Constitutional Order in House Leadership Dispute

MONROVIA — Dr. Clarence Moniba’s Liberian National Union (LINU) is calling on all political actors to uphold the rule of law and show unwavering respect for the recent Supreme Court ruling on the House of Representatives’ leadership dispute.

In an official statement, LINU commended the Supreme Court of Liberia for what it described as a decisive, timely, and principled intervention in a crisis that has put Liberia’s democratic values to the test. The party said the Court’s ruling, which reaffirms constitutional authority and due process, must serve as a guiding light during this critical moment for national governance.

“Liberia’s democracy must be anchored in the Constitution and guided by our laws—not manipulated for political convenience,” the statement read. “The Supreme Court has spoken, and its opinion must be respected without delay or distortion.”

LINU particularly urged Representative Richard Koon and the Majority Bloc to ensure that any attempt to alter the leadership of the House strictly complies with Article 49 of the Liberian Constitution, which governs legislative leadership.

The party warned that any disregard for due process would not only threaten institutional credibility but risk plunging the nation into constitutional instability.

Dr. Moniba stressed the importance of adhering to democratic principles, saying: “This is not just about the procedure—it’s about principle. Liberia’s institutions must be protected from actions that threaten the foundation of our democracy. We cannot allow the rule of law to be circumvented in favor of political power plays. We must demonstrate that the judiciary is not only the final arbiter of disputes but a cornerstone of peace and national integrity.”

LINU further cited Article 66 of the Constitution, which grants the Supreme Court final authority in all constitutional matters, emphasizing that all public officials are bound by law to comply with its decisions.

The party called on all political leaders, legislators, and citizens to put national interest, peace, and constitutional order above individual or partisan agendas.
