LNP Sends Several Student Protesters to Court – Charges them with Multiple Offenses

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police has arrested and sent to court Several individuals involved in a violent demonstration at the University of Liberia (UL) main campus on April 28, 2025.

 The protest, which erupted on the university grounds, disrupted public order and blocked the main street along the Capital By-Pass. The demonstration escalated into violence, with a marked police vehicle (license plate #RL-307) reportedly damaged during the incident.

“Police officers responding to the unrest were met with hostility, as some students allegedly hurled stones and glass bottles at law enforcement personnel,” The LNP statement said.

According to a release dated April 30, 2025 the LNP said it has identified and arrested the following individuals in connection with the incident:

Daniel S. Deema, Kalifa Kanneh, Archi Sougha, Frank D. Jackson, Christopher Dugbe, Isaac William, and Musa A. Kermokai.

After a preliminary investigation, the suspects were charged with multiple offenses, including: Criminal Conspiracy, Recklessly, Endangering Another Person, Rioting, Criminal Mischief, Failure to Disperse, Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing Highway and Other Public Passages

These charges the LNP said are in violation of several provisions of the Revised Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia, including Chapter 10, Section 10.4; Chapter 14, Subchapter B, Section 14.23; Chapter 15, Subchapter A, Section 15.5; and Chapter 17, Sections 17.1, 17.3, and 17.7.

The accused have been forwarded to court for prosecution. The LNP also announced that investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals involved in the unrest. Those found will also face legal action.

The Liberia National Police emphasized its commitment to preserving peace and order and urged the public to resolve grievances through lawful and non-violent means.
