Saclepea Police in Saclepea have arrested a 30-year-old man identified as Alex Melewon after he was found in possession of counterfeit U.S. currency totaling $1,400.

According to authorities, the arrest occurred after Melewon, a self-proclaimed money exchanger based in Ganta, traveled to Saclepea to deliver cash to his father.

Upon arrival, he attempted to pay a motorcyclist for transportation using a fake $100 bill, which immediately raised the driver’s suspicions.

The motorcyclist, along with several local money exchangers, quickly alerted the police. Officers apprehended Melewon shortly after the report was made.

Witnesses described him as visibly distressed at the time of his arrest.

Law enforcement officials stated that the significant quantity of counterfeit currency suggested more than a simple misunderstanding, raising concerns about the suspect’s mental state and possible involvement in a larger operation.

While in custody, Melewon claimed he was merely trying to exchange money to pay for his transportation.

However, he has yet to provide a credible explanation for how he came into possession of the counterfeit bills.

Police are actively investigating whether Melewon is part of a broader counterfeiting network. He is currently being held in a police cell in Saclepea and is expected to appear in court on Monday to face formal charges.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who are urging law enforcement to remain vigilant and take further steps to combat the circulation of fake currency.

Police are calling on members of the public to come forward with any additional information, emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial to maintaining public safety and protecting the integrity of the local economy.
