MONROVIA – The Ministry of Justice has sharply debunked Social Media claims alleging that Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. Oswald Tweh has distanced himself from the Ministry’s recent Press release.
The Ministry recently put out a release outlining protocols to be followed in planning a protest or March, warning that anyone who violates will be prosecuted in line with the law.
Following the Ministry’s release, there were widespread social media claims that Minister Tweh who is on a private visit in the United States distanced himself from the release emulating from the Press and publicity arm of the Ministry of Justice.
Reacting to what it termed as fabrications in a release Sunday, May 4,2025, the Ministry clarifies that the Thursday’s May 1, 2025, press release, which frowns upon the April 30, 2025, protest by individuals who demonstrated without a permit, was issued with the full knowledge and approval of the Minister and Attorney General.
“The Minister remains fully committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all expressions of civil liberties are conducted within the legal framework – any that any suggestion to the contrary is not only false but also a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and undermine lawful governance,” the MoJ statement said.
The release further emphasized the Ministry of Justice’s support for the right to peaceful assembly but reiterates that such rights come with responsibilities and conditions as defined by the law.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is admonishing all citizens to verify information through official channels at all times and to avoid circulating unverified reports that may cause confusion or incite unnecessary tension.
