TEMPLE OF JUSTICE – Former President George Weah made an appearance at the Monrovia City Court on Monday, drawing public and media attention amid the high-profile legal proceedings involving several former lawmakers, including ex-House Speaker Fonati Koffa.
The visit comes just hours before the scheduled arraignment of Koffa and four other members of the House of Representatives—Abu Kamara, Dixon Seboe, Priscilla Cooper and Jacob Deebee—who were arrested on Friday.
The group faces a series of serious criminal charges stemming from a December 2024 arson attack on the Capitol Building.
Former President Weah arrived at the court premises with several former officials and was seen entering the judge’s chambers twice for brief meetings lasting only a few minutes each.
No formal statement has been issued by either the court or Weah’s office concerning his visit. After the short discussions, the former president departed without addressing the press.
The defendants—Koffa, Kamara, Seboe, Cooper and Deebee—are facing multiple charges including arson, criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal conspiracy, endangering another person, and criminal facilitation.
The charges stem from a politically charged incident in December 2024, when an alleged arson attack significantly damaged parts of the Capitol Building, escalating tensions in the country’s already fragile post-election climate.
The Liberia National Police confirmed that the arrests followed a months-long investigation involving surveillance footage, forensic analysis, and witness testimonies.
Authorities alleged that the accused played key roles in orchestrating and facilitating the attack.
