NPHIL Engages Stakeholders in Sinoe on Event-Based Surveillance

By: Karino Teah

Sinoe County – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) on Monday held a one-day stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Greenville, Sinoe County, to strengthen Event-Based Surveillance (EBS) across the county.

The meeting brought together District Surveillance Officers, Health Officers from all ten health districts, media practitioners, community leaders, and the County Health Officer. The training focused on improving collaboration and early detection of potential disease outbreaks within communities.

Facilitators from NPHIL emphasized the importance of community reporting, verification, and rapid response mechanisms to prevent the spread of diseases.

Speaking on behalf of the Sinoe County Health Team, County Health Department Director Williams Bedford lauded NPHIL for decentralizing public health surveillance and involving local structures. He said community participation and media engagement are vital in ensuring timely reporting of health events.

The Event-Based Surveillance system is part of Liberia’s broader effort to strengthen early warning and response to public health threats. The initiative is expected to enhance coordination among health workers and community stakeholders, improving Sinoe’s overall disease preparedness and response.
