Police to Oversee CDC Eviction from Bernard’s Beach Property

By: Contributor

MONROVIA – The Civil Law Court in Montserrado County has ruled in favor of the Intestate Estate of Martha Stubblefield Bernard, ordering the eviction of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) from a 4.23-acre property near Bernard’s Beach in Monrovia.

Judge George W. Smith issued the decision on August 4, 2025, and it was enforced by a Writ of Possession signed on August 13.

The ruling confirms the estate as the rightful owner of the disputed land, located at the southeastern corner of Tubman Boulevard and the road leading to Bernard’s Beach.

The Sheriff of Montserrado County, backed by armed officers from the Liberia National Police, has been tasked with carrying out the eviction.

The estate accused the CDC of illegally occupying the property, which had been the subject of a months-long legal dispute.

The court’s judgment was based on clear land boundaries and valid legal title proving the estate’s ownership.

In preparation for the eviction, the Clerk of Court sent a letter to Police Inspector General Colonel Gregory O. W. Coleman, requesting police presence to ensure the process proceeds peacefully.

This case underscores the persistent challenges of land disputes in Liberia and reinforces the judiciary’s crucial role in protecting property rights—even when politically influential parties are involved.

Legal experts say the ruling may set a precedent for handling future land cases, particularly those involving politically connected entities.

The eviction is expected to take place soon under police supervision.
