MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has suspended the Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bryant McGill, following allegations linking him to the rape of a minor.
An Executive Mansion release on Wednesday said the suspension is in line with the government’s zero-tolerance stance against sexual and gender-based violence.
The move, according to the release, is intended to allow for a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.
“Deputy Minister McGill will remain suspended until the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement emphasized.
President Boakai has repeatedly stressed his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights of women, girls, and other vulnerable groups, vowing that anyone found culpable of sexual and gender-based violence will face the full weight of the law.
Minister McGill stands accused of raping a 14-year-old girl but sources said he has denied tempering with the teenager.
Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman has confirmed that the 14-year-old survivor in the rape case involving the Deputy Minister for Youth Development Bryant McGill was indeed raped.
Speaking at a press conference alongside officials from the Ministries of Justice and Gender, IG Coleman described the case as delicate and emphasized that it must be handled carefully to ensure a prosecution supported by evidence.
According to Director Coleman, the investigation is ongoing.
