Buchanan – In a bid to empower young people with technical skills, Grand Bassa County Superintendent Karyou Johnson has engaged the Bassa Youth Caucus to help implement a Financial Aid program at the Liberia Opportunity Industrialization Center (LOIC), Buchanan satellite.
During a meeting on Monday, Superintendent Johnson outlined a structured roadmap for recruiting beneficiaries from across the county through the Bassa Youth Caucus, which represents all youth groupings in Grand Bassa.
The initiative is designed to facilitate the payment of tuition and related expenses for eligible youths enrolling in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs at LOIC.
The program is funded through proceeds from the county’s “Scraps Fund,” with a total of US$100,000 earmarked for youth initiatives.
Of this, US$5,000 has been specifically allocated to kick-start the Financial Aid program at LOIC.
The disbursement process is overseen by a specialized committee chaired by Bunty Ujay Lee.
Chairman Alpha Bah, who manages the LOIC Buchanan satellite, welcomed the partnership, describing the Superintendent’s decision as a reflection of inclusive governance and a clear commitment to youth empowerment.
The Bassa Youth Caucus has pledged to actively coordinate the recruitment process and ensure the program reaches deserving beneficiaries.
Further discussions with LOIC management are expected in the coming weeks, with the Youth Caucus set to participate in follow-up meetings to ensure smooth implementation.
Superintendent Johnson’s engagement underscores a collaborative approach between county authorities and youth leaders to advance skills development and economic opportunities for young people in Grand Bassa.
