FENDELL, UL – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Relations by the University of Liberia.

Presenting the honor, University President Layli Maparyan said the award recognizes Minister Nyanti’s steadfast commitment to strengthening Liberia’s foreign policy and elevating the country’s presence on the global stage.

“The conferral of this honorary doctorate acknowledges Minister Nyanti’s unwavering commitment to advancing Liberia’s foreign policy, strengthening our bilateral and multilateral partnerships, and championing our nation’s voice internationally,” Maparyan stated.
“Her strategic leadership was instrumental in securing Liberia’s successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, a feat that will resonate through our diplomatic history for generations.”

During her tenure, Minister Nyanti has overseen several key initiatives, including efforts to revitalize Liberia’s diplomatic corps through professional development programs and merit-based appointments.

She has also deepened Liberia’s economic and security cooperation with regional and continental bodies such as the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union.

A major highlight of her leadership, officials noted, was Liberia’s successful campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council — a development widely regarded as enhancing the country’s influence in global peacekeeping and development decision-making.

President Joseph Boakai praised the Foreign Minister’s achievements, describing the honor as well deserved.

“Minister Nyanti exemplifies the dedication and vision required to elevate Liberia’s standing in the international community,” President Boakai said. “This honorary doctorate is a testament to her outstanding service, and I encourage her to continue forging pathways that benefit our people and secure our nation’s future.” The ceremony, attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, faculty members, alumni, and representatives of foreign missions accredited to Liberia, concluded with a standing ovation and a reception in recognition of Minister Nyanti’s contributions to national service and global diplomacy.
