UMC Clarifies Property Dispute, Says Ganta Mission Case Still Before Supreme Court

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The United Methodist Church – Liberia Annual Conference (UMC) has clarified that the recent lifting of a prohibition order does not grant the Global Methodist Church (GMC) the right to occupy the Ganta United Methodist Mission properties in Nimba County.

In a statement, the UMC emphasized that the dispute over the properties remains pending before the judiciary, noting that a declaratory judgment case is currently on appeal before the Supreme Court.

The church reaffirmed its ownership and administrative authority over the Ganta mission properties and stated that any party seeking to use the facilities must follow established church procedures.

The clarification follows a court decision that reportedly denied the UMC’s request for a stay order — a ruling that GMC members have reportedly celebrated.

However, the UMC stressed that the decision does not affect the ongoing appeal process before the Supreme Court.

The church warned that the legal and administrative status of the Ganta mission properties remains unchanged pending the final determination of the case.

The UMC reiterated its commitment to pursuing legal resolution while urging all parties to respect due process and church property regulations.
