Monrovia – Liberia’s Vice President, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has departed Monrovia for Accra, Ghana, to represent President Joseph Boakai, at a state funeral for Ghanaian officials who died in a helicopter crash on August 6 in the Ashanti Region.
The funeral, scheduled for Friday, August 15, will honor the lives of Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others who were serving the nation at the time of the tragedy.
Vice President Koung is leading a high-level delegation that includes: Rtd. General Geraldine Janet George, Minister of National Defense, Mr Samuel Kofi Woods, National Security Advisor and Luther K. Tarpeh, Chairman of the National Port Authority and the Unity Party
The delegation will express Liberia’s deepest condolences and solidarity with the government and people of Ghana.
President Boakai earlier recalled the recent visit of former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama to Liberia for Independence Day celebrations, describing it as a reminder of the strong bond between the two nations.
The visit by VP Koung highlights the close relationship between Liberia and Ghana, built on shared values, history, and regional cooperation.
