WCL Partners with Bomi Community College to Launch Vocational Training Program for Youth

By: Peter Darblo

BOMI COUNTY: In a significant move to empower local youth and stimulate economic development, Western Cluster Liberia (WCL) on Friday, July 18, 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bomi Community College to launch a life-changing vocational training program.

The partnership aims to equip young people in Bomi County with marketable technical and vocational skills aligned with the growing demands of Liberia’s labor market.

The training will focus on key trades such as fitting, heavy-duty mechanics, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and other practical skills critical to the mining and construction sectors.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, WCL CEO Adriaan Strydom expressed optimism that the initiative would help reduce youth unemployment, alleviate poverty, and strengthen the local workforce.

“This partnership is part of our broader commitment to meaningfully contribute to the communities in which we operate,” said Mr. Strydom. “Skills development is the foundation for sustainable growth and job creation, especially for young people in Western Liberia.”

Dr. Zobong Boima Norman, President of Bomi Community College, hailed the initiative as a transformative opportunity for the youth of Bomi County.

He emphasized the college’s readiness to implement the program with high standards of training, professionalism, and accountability.

The first phase of the vocational program is set to begin in the upcoming academic semester.

Enrollment will prioritize underprivileged youth, high school graduates, and individuals seeking to upgrade their skills.
