Washington – U.S. President Donald J. Trump has extended warm wishes to the people of Liberia and President Joseph Boakai in celebration of the West African nation’s 178th Independence Day.
In a formal message released by the White House, President Trump conveyed the United States’ continued commitment to Liberia’s progress, emphasizing shared values and cooperation between the two countries.
“On behalf of the American people and the Government of the United States, I send our best wishes to you and the people of Liberia as you celebrate the 178th anniversary of your independence,” President Trump stated.
President Trump also reflected on his recent meeting with President Boakai, calling it “a great honor” to host the Liberian leader at the White House earlier this month.
The encounter marked a significant moment in bilateral relations, with both leaders reaffirming mutual goals around democracy, economic growth, and regional security.
“We are proud to reflect on our shared commitment to democracy, economic growth, and regional stability, and look forward to strengthening our partnership,” Trump noted in the letter.
The message underscores the United States’ enduring ties with Liberia, a nation historically linked to America through its founding by freed slaves in the 19th century.
President Trump concluded by expressing appreciation for Liberia’s friendship and a hopeful outlook for deeper cooperation in the years to come.
The message comes amid Liberia’s national celebrations, as citizens commemorate nearly two centuries of independence since the country declared itself a sovereign state on July 26, 1847.
