Monrovia – The Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT) hosted a three-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday to discuss potential avenues for collaboration aimed at bolstering asset recovery and promoting transparency in Liberia.
The IMF delegation was led by Joel Chiedu Okwukei, Resident Representative to Liberia.
During the meeting, AREPT Chairperson, Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, briefed the team on the Taskforce’s mandate, operational procedures, and efforts in tracing, recovering, and safeguarding public assets and properties.
The discussions highlighted AREPT’s ongoing partnerships with government agencies, private sector actors, and international institutions.
Chairperson Martin also detailed the Taskforce’s achievements in asset recovery, while candidly addressing the challenges it continues to face.
He stressed that collaboration with international financial institutions is vital to enhancing AREPT’s capacity to recover assets both locally and abroad.
The IMF delegation commended AREPT’s progress and pledged to explore areas for future cooperation, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement and knowledge-sharing between the two institutions.
AREPT described the meeting as a critical step toward strengthening its partnerships with international stakeholders—an essential component of its mission to recover stolen assets, promote accountability, and curb corruption in Liberia.
