Arson Fallout: Kolubah Confirms Call from Rep. Debee Amid Security Concerns

By Sampson W. Weah – sampsonwweah7@gmail.com

MONTSERRADO COUNTY – Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has confirmed receiving a phone call from Grand Gedeh County District #3 Representative Jacob Debee—one of the lawmakers allegedly linked to the December 18, 2024, arson attack on the Capitol Building.

Speaking to reporters, Rep. Kolubah clarified that the call took place during a period of heightened political tension stemming from the Speakership dispute within the Legislature.

He emphasized that the conversation was not about plotting or discussing any violent acts but was instead focused on concerns regarding the safety and security of lawmakers affiliated with the then minority bloc.

According to Kolubah, Rep. Debee reached out to offer reassurance and expressed willingness to provide protective support in the event that the majority bloc resorted to force amid the leadership standoff.

“Debee told us he was willing to provide men to defend us, just in case the majority decided to use force,” Kolubah stated.

He firmly denied any connection between the call and the Capitol Building fire, stressing that the discussion was solely about ensuring the safety of lawmakers.

Kolubah’s statement comes as investigations into the Capitol arson incident continue, with national concern growing over rising political tensions and threats to democratic institutions.

The December 18 attack on the Capitol Building, which shocked the nation, is currently the subject of a trial at the Monrovia City Court.

Several lawmakers are reportedly under investigation for possible involvement in the incident.
