Buchanan & District #1 in Bassa Crowned Champions in Bassa District League

Buchanan Buchanan District has been crowned champions of the 2025 Grand Bassa District League after defeating Neekreen Statutory District 5–0 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The highly anticipated final, played over the weekend at the historic Dorris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan, ended goalless after 90 minutes of intense action before heading to penalties.

Amid heavy rain and a cheering crowd, the tournament hosts, Buchanan District, converted all five of their penalty kicks to secure victory over a resilient Neekreen side.

Buchanan District Representative Matthew Joe received the prestigious championship trophy and a cash prize of LRD 100,000, while runners-up Neekreen District walked away with LRD 50,000.

Kpogbarn District #5 claimed third place after a convincing win over Wee District #4.

Buchanan District also dominated the individual awards: Lee Zoegar was named Most Valuable Player, Esaiah Marshall took home the Best Goalkeeper award, and Goodrich G. Dean earned the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer.

Since Representative Matthew Joe’s ascension to the district’s top leadership position, Buchanan District has consistently maintained its dominance in the local league.

Meanwhile, in the kickball category, the District #1 Kickball Team clinched the 2025/2026 championship after a thrilling 4–2 victory over District #2. The District #1 girls displayed remarkable consistency, remaining unbeaten throughout the competition.

In the individual kickball awards, Karriauslyne Diän Diän of Neatoh KC won Highest Home Runner, Cecelia Aquay of Girls of Aries was named Best Pitcher, and Varna Darblow of Vision Sisters captured the Most Valuable Player award.
