BOMI COUNTY – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO), has officially launched a sexual and reproductive health (SRH) project in Liberia.
The initiative aims to enhance access to quality SRH services, raise awareness, and improve health outcomes for women, youth, and vulnerable populations across the country.
Speaking at the launch in Bomi County, ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, Madam Josephine Nkrumah, stressed the importance of prioritizing sexual and reproductive health as a key component of national development.
She emphasized that access to accurate information and quality healthcare services empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Madam Nkrumah highlighted that the project reflects ECOWAS’s ongoing commitment to supporting Liberia’s health sector and promoting the rights and dignity of citizens, especially those in underserved communities.

She also called for strong collaboration among government agencies, healthcare providers, and community leaders to ensure the project’s sustainability.
“The success of this initiative depends on collective effort at all levels,” Madam Nkrumah said.
Project activities will include community outreach, capacity building for healthcare workers, and the provision of essential SRH services and educational materials.
WAHO representatives reaffirmed their technical support and expressed optimism that the program will contribute to measurable improvements in Liberia’s sexual and reproductive health indicators.
The launch event brought together local authorities, health professionals, civil society organizations, and community members, all pledging their support to advance the initiative for the benefit of Liberians nationwide.
