Liberia National Police Leads Awareness Drive Against Drug Abuse in Bomi

By: Gabriel M. C. Parker

Tubmanburg, Bomi County – The Joint Security in Bomi County, led by the Liberia National Police (LNP), has announced plans to launch a two-day anti-drug awareness campaign as part of the ongoing national “Say No to Drugs” initiative.

The announcement was made by Col. Sylvester Hina, Commander of the Liberia National Police Bomi Detachment. According to him, the campaign is designed to educate communities on the dangers of drug abuse and help curb the spread of harmful substances, especially among the youth.

“The fight against drugs is not just a police matter; it is a community responsibility,” Col. Hina emphasized. “If we do not educate our young people today, we will lose them tomorrow to drugs and crime.”

The first phase of the campaign will kick off on Monday, August 18, 2025, in Gbah Jacket, a busy commercial town widely seen as a hotspot for drug distribution and abuse.

The second phase will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Tubmanburg, the county capital.

Each session will include community dialogues, educational outreach, and interactive discussions with young people about the harmful effects of drugs on health, education, and future opportunities.

Col. Hina explained that both dates were strategically selected to coincide with market days, which attract large crowds of residents, traders, and visitors.

“These are the days when scores of people converge to do business,” he said. “By holding the awareness on such days, we can maximize our outreach and ensure the message reaches as many people as possible.”

The Joint Security team will also collaborate with local leaders, youth groups, and school authorities to increase community engagement and build grassroots support for the campaign.

Organizers believe the initiative represents an important step toward reducing drug-related activities in the county and reinforcing the message that harmful substances have no place in the lives of Bomi’s youth.
