Eyewitnesses say the incident happened during what appeared to be a routine gasoline sale.

According to accounts from the scene, Mr. Threason’s wife, Agatha Clarke, was nearby preparing food for workers using a coal pot when the gasoline was being measured.

Moments later, Mr. Dean reportedly carried a bucket containing the fuel past the burning coal pot.

The gasoline ignited instantly, triggering a sudden explosion that engulfed both men in flames.

Several bystanders in the area sustained minor injuries during the incident, though they were treated and released.

The two primary victims, however, suffered severe burns and were rushed to the F.J. Grant Memorial Hospital, where medical authorities have described their condition as critical and life-threatening.

Local authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Meanwhile, community leaders are calling on residents—particularly fuel sellers—to exercise extreme caution and adhere strictly to safety measures when handling and selling flammable substances, warning that negligence can result in devastating consequences.
