MONROVIA – The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) on Monday, 5 May 2025, hosted a high-level delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) as part of the institution’s 46th Senior Course Africa Study Tour.

The visit aimed to deepen understanding and foster knowledge exchange on military roles in disaster response and civil-military cooperation in humanitarian relief.

Led by Brigadier General BB Owusu, Assistant Commandant of the Junior Division at GAFCSC, the delegation included directing staff and participants of Senior Course 46.

The visit began with a detailed briefing at AFL Headquarters, focusing on the AFL’s operational roles in disaster response, its collaboration with civil authorities, and coordination with international and non-governmental organizations.

The presentation explored the AFL’s engagement in supporting national resilience, its contingency planning for disaster scenarios, and the importance of effective information sharing and regional cooperation. Officials emphasized the AFL’s recognition of civil leadership in crisis situations and its commitment to working alongside civilian institutions to enhance preparedness and response efforts.

The Armed Forces of Liberia expressed its honor in hosting the Ghanaian delegation, describing the interaction as a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the two militaries through mutual learning and shared experiences in military education and operations.

In a courtesy call on Monday, the GAFCSC team met with Liberia’s Minister of National Defense and senior AFL leadership.

During their stay, the delegation is scheduled to visit key national institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, National Disaster Management Agency, and the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation. They will also undertake a field trip to the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The visit is part of GAFCSC’s wider initiative to expose its senior course participants to strategic and operational dynamics across the African continent.

The AFL’s High Command expressed optimism that the exchange would provide valuable insights and promote stronger military cooperation between Ghana and Liberia.
