Grand Bassa County — The Grand Bassa County Procurement Department, in collaboration with the County’s Development Section, has begun the formal process leading to the construction of the long-awaited Benson River Junior High School in Harlandsville Township.
The initiative gained momentum on Monday, November 17, with the opening of bid documents in a public and transparent forum witnessed by County Superintendent Karyou Johnson.
According to the Procurement Department, six companies initially purchased bid documents following a newspaper announcement, but records show that five companies formally applied and participated in the bidding exercise held in Buchanan City.
These firms include Wologizi Group of Companies, Joel Corporation Incorporated, Unity Construction Incorporated, INNOVA Construction Company, and Dream Technology Group of Companies.
In a show of accountability, Assistant Superintendent for Development Hon. Moses Gbehzohngar Henry and Procurement Officer Bradford Anderson jointly unsealed all submitted applications in the presence of company representatives.
The open-session review was intended to assure bidders of a fair and unbiased vetting process under the Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC) Act.
Addressing participants in the conference hall of the Administrative Building, Superintendent Johnson reaffirmed the county’s commitment to transparency.
He assured all companies that the evaluation process would be thorough and impartial, leading to the selection of a qualified contractor capable of delivering a standard educational facility for the people of Harlandsville.
The Benson River School, a government-run institution, has operated for decades from a rented structure, grappling with chronic financial challenges and inadequate learning conditions. To address these longstanding problems, the County Local Government has earmarked US$50,000 from its Scrap Fund to kick-start the school’s construction.
Earlier this year, Superintendent Johnson announced the fund allocation, a move welcomed by stakeholders and the County Council.
The project aligns with the County Development Agenda and the Administration’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes education for young Liberians in underserved communities.
Once the competitive bidding process is concluded and a contractor selected, construction of a modern junior high school—meeting the Ministry of Education’s infrastructure standards—is expected to begin swiftly, marking a significant milestone for residents of Harlandsville Township.
