MONROVIA – Ex-Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor either agrees to walk the path of peace and nation building or open the door for confusion, instability and possible chaos.
“As a people, we are now faced with two clear choices,” she said. “We can either agree to walk the path of peace and nation-building, or we can open the door to confusion, instability, and possible chaos. That choice lies solely in the hands of the President.” The former Vice President said.
Madame Taylor, the immediate past Vice President of Liberia, made the remarks on Friday afternoon during a mass opposition gathering meant to checkmate the Boakai-Koung Administration.
In a bold and emotionally charged speech Howard-Taylor issued a stern warning to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, accusing him of trampling on the Constitution and pushing the country toward potential chaos.
The gathering included several opposition parties including the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), National Patriotic Party (NPP), Altrnative National Congress (ANC), Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), All Liberian Party (ALP) and Mulbah Morlu’s “Civil Society Group” Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND).
At the gathering, Madame Howard-Taylor who barely walks without the aid of a crutches expressed deep concern over what she described as a troubling shift in the country’s democratic path.
“I never imagined we could get to a point where the first citizen of the land would begin to play politics with the Constitution.” She said.
The former Vice President, who served alongside former President George Weah, stressed that Liberia stands at a dangerous crossroads and decisions of the president in the coming days will determine whether the nation advances toward unity or descends into turmoil.
The statement from the Ex-Vice President is in apparent response to President Boakai’s address to the nation in which he acknowledged the ruling of the Supreme Court into a Bill of Information and vowed to work with the group at the House of Representatives which has quorum for the full functioning of his government.
The high court ruled on Wednesday April 23, 2025 declaring Fonati Koffa as the legitimate Speaker of the House – describing all actions of the majority members as illegal into the house long standing dispute.
But the President, being cognizant of the number game at the legislature, vowed to work with the side that will have the majority to conduct the business of the house.
