Monrovia – Emotions flared at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection as protestors stormed the compound this week, demanding swift justice for survivors of rape across Liberia.
The demonstrators, described as concerned citizens and activists, called for urgent government action to ensure perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted without delay.
Facing the crowd directly, Deputy Gender Minister Atty. Laura Golakeh reassured protestors that the Ministry stands firmly with survivors.
“We hear your cries, and we stand with you,” she said. “Justice is not just a demand—it is a right, and we are working tirelessly with the relevant institutions to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable under the law.”
Though peaceful, the protest carried an emotional charge, with participants insisting that rape survivors continue to be denied justice due to delays and weak enforcement.
Golakeh promised increased transparency in handling rape cases and emphasized ongoing partnerships with the Ministry of Justice and civil society groups.
“We cannot solve this crisis in silence. Your voices matter,” she added, calling for continued constructive engagement.
