Monrovia – Associate Justice Jamesetta Wolokollie has issued a stay on all proceedings in the Capitol Arson case, pending the outcome of a scheduled legal conference.
Justice Wolokollie, who is currently presiding in chambers, has ordered all parties involved — including the defendants and Criminal Court “A” Judge Roosevelt Willie — to await further instructions until after the conference.
Just days ago, Judge Willie ruled on a motion filed by several defendant lawmakers, including Fonati Koffa, Abu Kamara, Jacob Debee, and others.
The motion sought to suppress evidence and dismiss charges on grounds that the investigation into the arson incident was conducted improperly.
Additionally, the defense requested the temporary release of some incarcerated defendants for medical attention.
However, Judge Willie denied all requests, stating that the reasons provided were insufficient. He added that the state is obligated to ensure medical care for individuals in its custody.
The legal conference is scheduled for Thursday, October 2 at 3:00 PM.
Following the conference, if Justice Wolokollie finds sufficient legal grounds for the writ of certiorari, she may grant it.
This would move the case to the full bench of the Supreme Court for further argument.
The outcome of those arguments will determine whether Judge Willie’s decision will be upheld or overturned.
