Temple of Justice – Former House Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa, along with 14 co-defendants, pleaded not guilty on Monday, November 17, 2025, to criminal charges related to the alleged arson at the Capitol Building.

Appearing before Criminal Court “A,” all 15 defendants denied the accusations brought against them by prosecutors, who claim the group played a role in the attack.

Prior to reading the indictment, defense attorneys requested that the trial be conducted before a jury.

Prosecutors outlined the charges, asserting the defendants’ involvement, but the defense immediately rejected the claims, insisting their clients had no connection to the incident.

Resident Judge Roosevelt Willie set jury selection to begin on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., following several pretrial motions filed by the prosecution.

Outside the courtroom, Cllr. Koffa told journalists the charges were politically motivated.

He reaffirmed his innocence and pledged to vigorously defend himself with the support of his legal team.

The case continues to attract widespread public attention as it moves into the next stage of proceedings.
