Koijee Strikes Back: ‘Lies Tried to Break Me, But Here I Stand

NATIONAL NEWS

Monrovia – The Secretary-General of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson T. Koijee, has broken his silence on what he describes as sustained “malicious and vicious lies and propaganda” aimed at damaging his reputation both at home and abroad, declaring that efforts to have him sanctioned ultimately failed.

In a strongly worded personal statement addressed to Liberians, Mr Koijee said persistent rumors, false accusations and coordinated lobbying campaigns were deliberately designed to weaken him politically and morally, but instead strengthened his resolve.

“They thought the rumors would break me, they thought the stories would weaken my spirit,” Mr Koijee said. “They believed that if they talked long enough, loud enough, and convincingly enough, the world would turn against me. But here I am, still standing, still moving forward.”

The CDC official accused political actors aligned with President Joseph Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung of investing significant resources in what he called a calculated campaign to have him sanctioned internationally.

“The Boakai and Koung machinery and their surrogates spent thousands of dollars lobbying to have me sanctioned, hoping they could succeed in destroying me and collapsing my name under manufactured narratives,” he claimed.

Mr Koijee maintained that the allegations leveled against him were unsupported by facts and driven by political motives rather than truth. He said those spreading the claims relied on repetition and influence rather than integrity.

“They spoke with confidence but not with truth. They gathered allies but not integrity,” he said, adding that the truth does not require loud defense or public confrontation. “Truth waits.”

Without providing specific details on the alleged sanction attempts, Mr Koijee suggested that the outcome had instead exposed broader national consequences. He argued that while individuals were previously targeted for sanctions, Liberia as a country now faces the burden of international scrutiny.

“Yesterday it was individuals who were sanctioned; today, under the Boakai and Koung mission, the entire country carries the weight of sanctions,” he asserted.

Mr Koijee said he deliberately chose not to publicly engage his critics, opting instead for what he described as personal growth, discipline and results.

“I did not argue with lies; I outgrew them. I did not chase revenge; I chased results. I did not fight shadows; I built substance,” he said.

Portraying himself as resilient in the face of adversity, the CDC Secretary-General said the sustained attacks revealed more about his opponents than about him.

“Every attempt to bury me only confirmed one thing: they underestimated what I was made of,” Mr Koijee said. “Their stamina expires, but purpose never expires.”

He concluded by attributing his survival and continued relevance to divine purpose, stating that “God alone is the author and finisher of my destiny.”

Mr Koijee’s remarks come amid heightened political tension following the 2023 elections and ongoing debates over governance, accountability and Liberia’s international standing. The government has not responded publicly to the specific allegations raised in his statement.
