CAPITOL HILL – The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (LAC/UMC) has expressed gratitude to members of the House of Representatives, particularly the committee mediating issues surrounding rumors of same-sex marriage and disputes over church properties in Liberia.
During a public hearing on Tuesday, the LAC/UMC provided clarity and factual information to counter what it described as misinformation being spread by individuals from other denominations amid the ongoing property dispute.
The church delegation noted that it has already submitted all relevant documents and materials to the committee, chaired by Hon. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan of Grand Gedeh County, to aid lawmakers in their investigation and serve as official references.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, former River Gee County Senator Comany Wesseh reaffirmed the LAC/UMC’s unwavering commitment to the biblical definition of marriage and to the laws of the Republic of Liberia.
After extensive deliberations, the committee rescheduled another hearing for Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The Liberia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church assured its members, the government, and the public of its continued dedication to truth, transparency, and the peaceful resolution of these matters, while upholding both spiritual and legal principles in its ministry across Liberia.
