MONROVIA – The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced a significant financial boost for clubs across its leagues, including a substantial increase in prize money and subventions—particularly for women’s football.

Speaking during the LFA’s third media engagement at its headquarters, LFA President Mustapha I. Raji revealed a 50% increase in prize money for the LFA First Division and a 25% increase for the Women’s Upper Division.

Starting with the 2025/26 league season:

  • First Division champions will receive US$30,000, up from US$20,000.
  • Women’s Upper Division champions will earn US$25,000, up from US$20,000.

President Raji emphasized that this move aligns with the association’s long-term commitment to football development and enhancing competition across all divisions.

More Support for Women’s Clubs

In addition to prize money increases, subventions for clubs in the Women’s Upper Division will rise by US$1,500, bringing the total support per club to US$7,500 per season.

This increase is made possible through the CAF Impact Fund, which supports initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s football in Africa.

FA Cup Prize Money Equalized

In a landmark move, the LFA has synchronized prize money for the FA Cup, ensuring equal payouts for both men’s and women’s categories starting in the 2025/26 season.
Each winner will now receive US$10,000.

Previously:

  • The men’s FA Cup winner received L$1.5 million.
  • The women’s FA Cup winner took home L$1 million.

The decision was ratified during an LFA Executive Committee meeting chaired by President Raji on Friday, August 8, at the LFA headquarters.

LFA Launches Over 2,000 Branded Match Balls

In a separate development, the LFA is preparing to distribute more than 2,000 branded match balls ahead of the upcoming league season.

These official balls are designed under the LFA’s own branding and will be used across all competitions.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote a national football identity and support homegrown football development.

President Raji described the move as “a major step toward strengthening Liberia’s football brand and enhancing visibility on the local and international stage.”
