“No Official Coach Appointed” — Maryland Steering Committee Chair Speaks Out

By: Perry B. Zordyu

Harper, Maryland County — The Chair of the Maryland County Sports Steering Committee, Josephfor Ketteh Zumo, has clarified ongoing speculation surrounding the appointment of a new head coach for the county’s kickball team ahead of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet.

Zumo disclosed that no official appointment letter has yet been issued to any individual, despite growing pressure over who will lead the Maryland girls’ team into the upcoming competition.

He, however, hinted that Coach Darius Ajavon appears to have an edge over his counterpart due to his experience and qualifications, which he described as vital for the county’s success.

According to Zumo, former coach Casthelo Garteh lacks the interpersonal skills necessary to effectively manage and collaborate with team members.

“Let me be bold — from our interactions, Coach Garteh does not deserve to be head coach,” Zumo stated. “We are looking for someone with both technical expertise and strong human relations — a people-centered coach who can qualify the team. His attitude is not what Maryland County needs right now.”

The committee chair expressed optimism that Coach Darius Ajavon, currently associated with Neatoh KC, could be the right fit to lead Maryland County.

“Ajavon is a seasoned coach and a perfect match. He has won the County Meet trophy before and understands the league very well. As the head of all kickball coaches in Liberia, his record speaks for itself,” Zumo said.

He concluded by assuring fans that an official announcement on the new head coach will be made in the coming days as the county begins preparations for the tournament.
